1992 Crown Vic

Support Systems for the
Ford Crown Victoria Air Suspension

Air suspension controls are activated by the module which also controls the Electronic Variable Orifice (EVO) for the steering. WARNING "unplugging the module will affect the steering adversely."

The air required for the leveling is distributed from the air compressor to the air springs by a nylon air line which runs from the compressor dryer through a "Y" fitting to each individual air apring at the rear air suspension. The compressor is located under the hood on the driver's side near the front grill under the windshield washer contain in front of the air breather. The air compressor assembly consists of a compressor and a vent solenoid, both are non-serviceable. The compressor is a single cylinder electric motor which supplies pressureized air as needed. The air compressor is powered by a relay that is controlled by the control module.

The pressurized air from the air compressor passes through the dryer assembly which contains a drying agent (silica gel). The moisture is removed from the air dryer when vented air passes out of the system during vent operation. Always replace the air dryer when replacing the air springs or compressor. Through time moisture seizes and cloggs the air dryer which will greatly shorten the life of the air suspension system.
